The Nursery & Plant Sales Area

Complimenting the garden is a retail nursery providing the visitors with the opportunity to purchase plants that they may have seen growing in the garden.

The vast majority of the plants are propagated at the nursery and these represent the widest variety of cottage garden plants for sale in the province. We aim to supply the highest quality of plants many of which can not be purchased locally.

The display borders surrounding the plant centre add to the quality of the visit and may help with their plant choice as well as providing an inspiration for planting ideas.

In addition to the cottage garden plant range, there is also a variety of shrubs, roses, alpines, climbers and select trees for sale. In May and June the bedding plants and hanging baskets are prolific!
Staff are always available to provide friendly advice and are on hand to refill hanging baskets, pots, etc.

The list of plants available is continually changing and a visit to the nursery is strongly recommended. “We also shop” at the nursery when we are planting some areas of the garden, so we can guarantee that the plant, given the right conditions and aftercare will grow and give you many years of enjoyment!

Nursery Gift vouchers are available at the nursery; an ideal present for the green fingered friend or gardener in your family.

Joy and Maurice have a wealth of knowledge and are usually on hand to provide advice to customers on potential purchases.

The Plant Sales Area is primarily laid out by colour grouping, with plants for shade, damp ground planting, sunny borders etc.

The nursery is laid out into various sections:

Plants For Shade – here you will find many of the plants found at the lakeside garden and woodland area including a wide selection of hostas, grasses and ferns.

Plants For Damp – many of the plants growing around the lake and formal beds alongside the driveway and front border can be found here.

Plants For Dry – this section includes may silver foliage plants suitable for full sun.

Unusual And Rare Plants – many of these plants will not be available in large quantities and have been seen at Chelsea Flower Show or have been recommended.

Small Low Growing Plants – our alpine section mainly covers this area but look out for new additions to our perennial collection in this section.

Seasonal Plants – we will always have an interesting range of plants for sale throughout the season and these can be seen growing in the sales display borders or in the adjacent garden.

Climbers And Shrubs – here we try to offer an interesting selection of shrubs and climbers to compliment the herbaceous plantings typical of our garden.
